It was an endless stretch of flat land. Purple wildflowers bloom on the sunny field.
Above it was a wagon running along a narrow, winding road. After a while, the window opened wide and a woman stuck her head out of the window. Admiration soon came from the woman who was gently looking at the blue sky, the dense forest, and the flowing river.
Beautiful scenery and unfamiliar scents of midsummer grasslands. It was all her first time living in a confined place until now.
"Rosetta, you'll get a bug in your mouth."
Suddenly she burst into laughter at the voice she heard. Rosetta looked back, tucking her bright golden hair behind her ears. Eyes resembling summer sparkled clearly.
"Come on, Nanny, get some fresh air like me so your motion sickness perhaps will go away?"
"Oh, wind or whatever, I'm going to die right now."
I guess it won't, because the nanny's face was so pale. It was because she suffered from severe motion sickness throughout the trip. Rosetta had a very pitiful look on her face, looking at her half-lying nanny in the chair.
"I told you not to come with me. Traveling at that age would be tough."
"It's not because Rosetta suddenly changed her destination!"
"That's because there's no sea there. I made it clear from the beginning that I wanted to see the sea."
"But does it make sense to suddenly come to this savage land?"
"What do you mean savage land? It's been a while since the Basque region was subjugated by the Kingdom, and you're still saying that?”
"But the reality is that they're barbarians. Where's that blood going?"
The nanny snorted furiously. When Rosetta was about to point out again, the nanny first opened her mouth.
"Anyway, don't think about taking this old woman off the way. Even if I die on the road, I'll follow Rosetta to the end."
"Don't keep saying you're going to die in front of me. Alan!"
The carriage slowed at Rosetta's call. One of the men who was riding a horse from the side came close to the window.
"Yes, mi—Ah, no, Lady Rosetta! Is there anything you want?"
"If you have any other motion sickness medication, can you give it to me? I'm going to treat Nanny.”
Allen sighed as he saw her dying nanny through the window.
"I've already done everything I can. Even if my grandfather tells me to cure her, there's nothing I can do right now.”
Allen's grandfather was a famous doctor in the kingdom. Allen rejected his grandfather's recommendation to succeed him by learning medicine and chose another job, but he knew how to do basic medicine because he had learned something.
"Allen, you quack! I feel worse after taking the medicine you gave me!"
But the nanny gave Allen a good scolding, waving her fists. Far from taking Allen's motion sickness medication to see the effects, the nanny, who worsened her condition, believed Allen to be a quack. Allen laughed and teased the nanny.
"Nanny, didn't I tell you to eat before you got on the wagon? It's all because you didn't listen to me. Now, make a choice. Just get off the wagon, or listen to me from now on."
"You spoiled brat! What, what, what?"
"Oh, I'd be disappointed if you said so. I really like nanny. I mean, listen to me from now on."
Rosetta quickly cut off the conversation between the two before the nanny exploded further here.
"I'd rather take a break. Alan, see if there's a place to rest around here."
Allen looked around quickly. All I could see was a vast field, but far away I could see lakes and trees to escape the sun.
"There's a lake up ahead. Then let's take a break over there."
***
The two sat by the lake and rested for a while while the men checked the wagon and drew water. The lake surrounded by the recording was clear enough to see inside. Above the surface, blue skies and flowing white clouds are reflected like a picture.
The nanny's complexion is much better than before as she drinks cold water from there and rests. When Rosetta took off her hat and tried to fan the nanny's face, the nanny was surprised and dissuaded her.
"Don't do that. It's all right."
"Do you think you're going to live?”
"Yes, I think I'm really going to live. I knew it would be hard to travel at this age, but I really didn't know it would be this bad."
"It's gonna be tough. You followed me because you didn't want me to get married?”
Rosetta's teasing question made the nanny sit, straightening her disorganized posture at once.
"You still don't want to get married?”
"No way. I told you I'd get married as soon as I got back from the trip.”
"Icell is a very good man. I'm sure Rosetta will cherish and love her forever."
"Yes, yes, I know."
The nanny raised her eyebrows at Rosetta's insincere reply.
"If you know so well, what's wrong with you? The same goes for this trip. Why did you insist on a trip that you didn't have to go?"
Rosetta let out a small sigh. I knew you would nag me like this, so I was going to take out my nanny and go on this trip. The nagger eventually followed, so the future trip was almost obvious.
"Why shouldn't I do that? My sister, brother, no one told me anything wherever I went."
"It's just that I'm worried. Hasn't Rosetta been weak since she was a child?"
"You're not sick, you're healthy.”
"What do you mean? In my eyes, it's still sarcastic and weak.”
The nanny looked at Rosetta's thin arms, which were less than half her, and added.
"No matter how big a child is, he's still a child in the eyes of parents. Especially, the youngest is the youngest forever.”
Rosetta knew exactly what her words meant. Families used to always think of Rosetta as a child on the edge of the water. Overprotective care, which had been severe since she was young, continued even after she became an adult.
"You don't have to do anything. We'll do everything for you.”
That was one of the most heard Rosetta ever said in her life.
And Rosetta also knew why she was treated like that. Unlike her capable sister and brother, Rosetta was not good at anything. Her intelligence was mediocre and her physical abilities were lower than those of her peers.
On the other hand, she has a special ability and has a great head. She's the one who fights for the first and second place in the kingdom. They were Rosetta's great pride and confirmation of her shabbyness.
"If I were good at something, wouldn't I have been able to do something important like my sister and brother instead of getting married?"’
While Rosetta's head was filled with such complicated thoughts, the nanny's nagging continued.
"By the way, I feel sorry for Issel. You couldn't stop the bride from going on a long trip. If I were Issel, I would tie Rosetta tightly so that she wouldn't move in the room.”
"Well, if you do that, you'll never get away with it. My mother and father, as well as my sister and brother, will never stand still."
Rosetta snorted lightly and the nanny nodded loudly, empathizing. The nanny knew best than anyone else that Rosetta's scary and great family members were not the ones who would just let their precious daughter and youngest sister go through rough times.
"That's true. They're good enough to do that. I'm glad I didn't kill Issel...Anyway, Rosetta, as soon as this trip is over, you're marrying Issel. No, what are you worried about? It's Lee Sel, not any other man. You know, right? As soon as Rosetta and her marriage were discussed, the aristocrats of the whole country lay down on their backs.”
"If you like it that much, why don't you get married for me?"
"Oh, I'd love to, if I could."
The nanny smiled shyly with a bright color.
"There's no husband like Issel. He's kind and caring, and how about his good looks. If you say yes, I'll get married right away. Of course!"
At that point, Rosetta had no choice but to raise both hands and feet. Rosetta turned her eyes around. While watching the scenery, roughly listening to what the nanny said, she found something coming from afar.
"Rosetta, you're listening to me....”
"Nanny, what's that?"
The nanny stretched her head and saw Rosetta pointing.
"Someone's riding a horse?”
It was someone riding a horse, as the nanny said. It was heading here in this vast field.
"You feel like you're coming to us, don't you?"”
"I know."
The two people stared at it. As we got closer and closer, we could clearly see the identity of the stranger. It was a woman on a horse. It's also running a horse without a saddle.
The woman was now waving her arms wide and shouting something. The problem was that it was a language that I didn't know at all.
"What is she saying?”
"Well, I don't know....”
And it was then that something happened. The calm lake water suddenly began to soar from behind.
Whoosh!
There was a flood of water everywhere. Soon after, something huge popped out of the lake. Covered with black, smooth leather, it had a round body and a long, slender neck. It stretched out its neck and opened its mouth wide. Huge, sharp teeth rushed in front of me in an instant.
"Argh!"
Rosetta and the nanny hugged each other and screamed. The men started running late, but it was too late. When the monster was about to swallow Rosetta and her nanny in one bite, the woman who ran on the horse flew in the sky with the horse.
Whoosh!
Hehehe!
Boom, the woman fell beside and heard a terrible sound. The last scream of the beast, and the sound of breaking bones. When Rosetta looked up, the shape of the horse was already invisible. Instead, only two legs were sticking out of the monster's mouth. As the monster mumbled its big mouth, flesh and blood dripped. In such astonishment, the woman shouted, holding Rosetta and her nanny while the monster chewed up the horse.
[----!]
It was still an unfamiliar language that I didn't know, but this time I understood what it meant at once.
Run!
That was it.
